For a couple decades ago, analogue CCTV system had been one of the most significant needs for video surveillance industries. The transformation of VCR to DVR had push the technology advancement of CCTV system moving a step forward by extend the recorded video data retrieval duration from few days to as much as few years.  

Anyway the dilemma caused by analogue CCTV system on low resolution images of object or other potentially incriminating evidence from analogue CCTV cameras have prevented successful investigations and convictions. Most of the time, the analogue CCTV camera with poor image quality don’t serve the purpose, the cameras are being simply used to do general observing instead of proper crime-fighting - even the cameras purposely placed in crime hotspots. A video clarity is greatly depends on how much pixel available in the video, which is the video resolution (Horizontal Resolution x Vertical Resolution). The video resolution of analogue CCTV system is limited by NTSC standards at 704 x 480 pixels and PAL standards at 704 x 576 pixels. Therefore the maximum limit of analogue resolution will be approximately 400,000 pixels or 0.4 megapixels. This is sufficient for general surveillance within the area which the camera is covered, but often unable to achieve forensic surveillance efficacy which insist on human face recognition as well as license plates.
